Stream of Consciousness
This simple but powerful exercise helps you move beyond the mind, quiet the voice inside your head, and let whatever lies beneath the surface come forward.
Set a timer for 10 minutes and begin writing whatever comes into your mind.
There is no topic.
There are no right or wrong answers.
Don't worry about spelling, grammar, or whether what you're writing makes sense.
Don't edit or reread what you've written.
Don't judge what comes up.
Just keep your pen moving.
If you don't know what to write, write:
“I don't know what to write right now...”
Then continue from there. You may be surprised by what begins to emerge when you stop trying to control what you write.
When the timer ends, pause and take a breath. Then read what you wrote with curiosity rather than judgment.
Reflect
- What thoughts, emotions, or themes kept appearing?
- Did anything come up that surprised me?
- Was there something underneath my thoughts that I hadn't realized I was feeling?
- Is there anything I wrote that I want to explore more deeply?
